Top 5 Snorkeling Spots

1. Hol Chan Marine Reserve

Belize's most famous marine park is just a 15-minute boat ride from Lina Point. The cut in the reef creates a natural channel where nurse sharks, rays, and sea turtles gather. Entry fee: $20 BZD.

2. Shark Ray Alley

Adjacent to Hol Chan, this sandy-bottom area was once a fisherman's cleaning station. Today, nurse sharks and southern stingrays glide beneath you in crystal-clear shallow water. An unforgettable experience for beginners.

3. Mexico Rocks

A patch reef system in shallow water (3-8 feet deep), perfect for families and first-time snorkelers. Elkhorn and staghorn coral formations are home to parrotfish, angelfish, and spotted eagle rays.

4. The House Reef at Lina Point

Why travel when the reef is at your doorstep? Our overwater cabanas sit directly above a thriving reef patch. Guests regularly spot barracuda, lobster, starfish, and juvenile nurse sharks through their glass floor panels — or just hop in from the sea ladder.

5. Coral Gardens

A protected area south of San Pedro with some of the healthiest coral formations on Ambergris. Brain coral, fan coral, and massive barrel sponges create an underwater landscape that rivals the Great Barrier Reef.

When to Snorkel

Belize enjoys warm water (78-84°F) year-round, but visibility peaks between March and June when calm seas and minimal rain create gin-clear conditions. Morning sessions before 10 AM offer the best light.
