The route in one sitting
Ambergris Caye is Belize's largest island, and San Pedro is the town on it. International flights do not land on the island. They land at Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport, code BZE, on the mainland near Belize City. From there you either take a short domestic flight to San Pedro Airport, code SPR, or a scheduled water taxi. Lina Point is a further short ride from San Pedro, not a stop on the international flight.
The Belize travel guide on this site is the short version of the country. This page is only the getting-there problem: airports, the hop, the boat, and the last mile to the resort. Read entry rules and money before you book the ticket, and what to pack once the route is set.
Flying into BZE
BZE is the international airport. The resort's Belize guide names American, United, Delta, and Southwest as airlines that have offered flights from US hubs. Treat that list as a snapshot, not a promise. Airlines add and drop cities. Check a live schedule for your dates, and read the fare rules on the ticket you actually buy.
Most US travelers reach BZE in a few hours of flying, which is why the same Belize guide quotes about 2 to 4 hours from the US. That range covers a nonstop from a nearby hub and a one-stop from farther away. It is not a door-to-door time. Add the domestic hop or the boat, the wait between them, and the ride to the resort.
Build a buffer on the day you arrive. Domestic departures do not wait for a late international flight the way a single ticket sometimes does, especially if you bought the hop separately. If your BZE landing is late in the afternoon, ask reservations whether a same-day connection to San Pedro is realistic before you assume you will sleep over the water that night. Belize does not observe daylight saving time and stays on UTC−6 year-round, which matters when you compare a US departure board with a local arrival.

The San Pedro hop
Tropic Air and Maya Island Air are the two carriers that fly the hop between the mainland and San Pedro. Lina Point's own pages do not agree on a single minute count: the homepage FAQ says about 15 minutes, and the Belize guide says about 20. Plan on a short flight in that range, not a precise timetable. Both carriers publish their own schedules. Book with the airline after your international ticket is confirmed, and keep the confirmation where you can open it offline.
SPR is a small island airport. You will not find a long terminal walk or a complicated connection. You will find a line, a bag, and a short wait while the next plane turns. Soft-sided luggage is easier on these aircraft than a rigid oversized suitcase. If you are traveling with dive gear, golf clubs, or a wedding dress that cannot fold, tell the domestic airline before you pay. Weight limits on a small plane are real, and the water taxi is the backup when a bag will not fit.
The hop is the option most guests choose when the clock matters. It is also the easier option when you have more than a carry-on. The ride from San Pedro Airport to Lina Point is about 15 minutes. The transfer from the San Pedro airstrip, or from the San Pedro water taxi terminal if you came by boat, is complimentary. Email reservations@linapoint.com with your airline, flight number, or water-taxi arrival time in advance so the boat is arranged.
The water taxi from Belize City
Scheduled water taxis run between Belize City and San Pedro. They take longer than the flight. A commonly quoted ride is on the order of an hour and a half, but the operator, the dock, and the day's sea state all move that number. Confirm the departure you intend to catch, and do not plan a 20-minute connection off an international flight onto a boat you have not booked.
The boat is a reasonable choice when you want to skip the small plane, when your bag is awkward, or when the flight you wanted is full. It is a poor choice when you are arriving after dark, when the wind is up, or when someone in the group gets seasick easily. Luggage space is tighter than people expect, and a hard case that fit in the international hold can still be a nuisance on the dock. Flying remains the simpler same-day plan for most stays.
Whichever boat you use, San Pedro's water-taxi terminal is in town, and Lina Point is not the dock. The transfer from that terminal to the resort is complimentary. Share the boat and the arrival time in advance.
Golf carts once you are on the island
Golf carts are how Ambergris Caye moves. Taxis exist, and boats exist, but a cart is what you will use for San Pedro, the bridge, and any beach on the island you want to see without chartering a ride each time. Lina Point lists a 4-seater golf cart rental on the golf cart experience. Tax, insurance, and the bridge pass are included. The shortest rental on that page is 4 hours at $35, and a 24-hour rental is listed at $68. Delivery is free inside San Pedro town limits. Longer blocks, up to a week, are on the same page.
You do not need a cart to exist at the resort. You need one if you want to leave for town on your own schedule. The experiences list is the right place to add it, along with anything else you already know you want. Reef days are booked separately from the room.
Same-day arrivals, and when to stay on the mainland
A clean same-day arrival looks like this: international flight into BZE with time to spare, a domestic hop you have already booked, a message to reservations with the SPR landing time, and a bag that fits the small plane. A messy one looks like a late BZE arrival, an unbooked hop, and a wedding party with four hard cases. If the connection is tight, say so before you travel. The team would rather move a transfer than meet an empty dock.
There is no published Lina Point rule that says you must overnight in Belize City. There is also no published promise that every evening arrival can be met. If you are landing after the last practical hop, plan a mainland night and come across in the morning. The best time to visit page is about weather, not about flight banks, but hurricane months are when weather delays are more likely. Leave more slack in September and October than you would in March.
What the room is, once you arrive
Room rates change daily. See live prices. The rates page explains direct booking and the cancellation policy, and the rooms page shows the layouts: second-floor and first-floor suites, duplex and standalone one-bedroom overwater cabanas, a two-bedroom cabana, and beachfront Villa 41, which is not over the water. Booking direct is the best price and beats online travel agencies by at least 6%. The minimum stay is 2 nights.
Every stay includes daily breakfast, kayaks, snorkel gear, paddleboards, Wi-Fi, and the overwater infinity pool, as the homepage and FAQ describe them. During The Mayan's closure, in-house guests receive continental breakfast. Public dining at The Mayan reopens November 12, 2026. Hol Chan is not a swim from the dock. Gear at the room is for the water beside the property. The boat to the reserve is on the snorkeling page and on the Hol Chan guide.
Couples comparing rooms for a celebration should read the honeymoon planning guide and the honeymoons page. Nothing honeymoon-specific is complimentary. A full buyout, for people arriving as a group, is 18 king rooms and up to 36 guests. That is the groups page, with a longer note in the group and advisor guide. Weddings use the same rooms plus The Mayan, and the details are on weddings. Travel advisors booking the trip for a client earn 20% commission and should start on travel advisors. Guest stories, if you want a sense of the place before the flight, are on reviews.
Free cancellation applies 30 or more days before check-in. Cancel 14 to 29 days out for a 50% refund. Inside 14 days the stay is non-refundable, and no-shows are non-refundable. Put the arrival date in writing with reservations if a flight time is still moving, so the cancellation clock and the transfer request are about the same stay.
